Writing for Children Continues. Join us this Friday. Weekly Workshop with Victoria Sherrow Fridays 10:00-Noon 6 classes $250 March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, April 6. Register by emailing Tish here.
During this session, we'll continue to discuss basic elements, including viewpoint, plotting, conflict, character development, dialogue, and "show; don't tell," and apply them to the writing people share in class. Once we decide what story we want to tell, how do we present our material in a dramatic and engaging way from start to finish? How do we build from one scene to the next to reach a satisfying conclusion? We'll also discuss finer points of writing and style, including voice, language devices, and word choices as students revise and polish their work. As part of that process, we'll analyze good writing and see how successful authors recognize good ideas and then bring their vision to life in words that entertain, inspire, inform, comfort, and captivate readers..
TestimonialVictoria's workshop provides the perfect setting of intimacy and direct contact with other serious writers, all of whom have different talents and struggles. The format Victoria has organized is highly professional, with examples of character development, plot, dialog and action, to inspire and enable the ability to actualize our goals of writing and going about getting published. Victoria is a consummate professional, an astute observer and critic, and an engaging, charismatic teacher. I feel incredibly fortunate to have found her at Write Yourself Free and have a new confidence that I will find a niche in the world of Children's literature. Dianne Warner
